Case Study

Wikipedia describes it as "one of several ways of doing social science research. Other ways include experiments, surveys, multiple histories, and analysis of archival information."
For MMS students, Case study is studying success and failure stories from various fields of life. And no field is left unused or unstudied in Management education.
In schools and junior colleges, we used to distinguish sports from studies. There never used to be a relation between the two. But here, sports form very important topic for case studies. And same is with entertainment. The entertainment sector forms a very important topics for case study. May it be latest movies, successful stage shows, some award functions or life of a legend from the industry. They all form great study material.
And its not only about entertainment and sports. Everything from sex to lifestyle, from roads to railways, from global warming to latest pub in the city.. Nothing is left untouched..

So what are the criteria we consider for selecting a case study? One line answer will be: Something which is different than the flow, which is super hit or super flop and which provides some large scope of study.

India 2020: The Superpower

The win in T20 final has definitely boosted up the Sensex and the overall business scenario in the country. Looking at the love we Indians have towards cricket, it doesn't take any management guru to tell how closely Indian Market is attached to win and loss in cricket match.
Today as I stepped in college, my friend Naval told me that Indian team is going to pass from the road in front of our college. So we had been to the highway to watch the players. And I was shocked to see some of my professors there. I approached on of the professors and she said me, "We Management people should not be allergic to any topic. People consider sports as wastage of time. But we look at it as a source of inspiration. Employees in organisations bunk office for cricket match and the productivity gets down if you don't handle the things properly. In the future when you will be part of HR team, you will need to manage the work schedules and work culture keeping in mind passion for cricket in India".
So true are the words. Probably that's the reason many IT and BPO firms had provided work hours as per match schedules during ODI world cup. And almost each company had arranged a plasma TV in office for cricket lovers.
